Tidbits from Nick Sakiewicz

Province article

16 is still the magic number. 16 teams will lead to a water down product league wide. With a few questionable franchises. 12 might be more realistic.

Sakiewicz on whether he’s thinking about expansion: “Every day. It’s a top priority. I’d like to get to16 as soon as we can. We have windows in 2018 and 2020 and I’d like to bring in one or two in each crunch and go from there.”

Edmonton, Philadelphia, Nashville…..wishful thinking or maybe not

Sakiewicz on increasing the league’s TV presence: “A national TV deal is tough. It’s still tough for MLS. It took 20 years for them to get the fairly decent one they have now. I’d like to see team invest in their local markets and get local TV deals. Once we get to 20 teams in this league, we’re more interesting for a national broadcaster.”

Talent is simple not available for a 20 league team right now or in the future. Chasing the pot of gold. At the end of the rainbow. That is simply not there. Big dreams small wallets.

“I’ve got my eye set on getting to 16 as soon as we possibly can,” said Sakiewicz.

There is not enough talent to go around for 16. Unless the league needs the expansion money.

“I plan on spending a lot of time on the road,” he said. “I have a lot to learn and you can’t do that sitting in an office.”

Let’s see if the owners will be willing to spend the money.

“If you have a good venue, good owners & passionate fans, you’re set to succeed.”

Now about that steep 3 million expansion fee….

“Video content & fan engagement on a daily basis so they can access our league.”

Cannot get any worse. The flow of information needs to be better without a doubt.

Only in the NLL

Well at least he did not shot his chauffeur.  New commissioner approves of hazing players.

Nowak hazed players, most notably rookies, and most notably including spanking them, over multiple years. There were video cameras recording the episodes. Nowak’s side countered this in its filings by claiming that former CEO and team co-founder Nick Sakiewicz approved of the activity before it happened, and condoned it afterward. The team disputed that.

New Commissioner

Nick Sakiewicz, former Union CEO will be the new NLL commissioner. Replacing George Daniel. The jury will be out for awhile. On whether still is a good move. As Sakiewicz spent decades working in MLS.

Can he get the NLL to take the next step? Getting the NLL into the mainstream? That is one challenge he faces. More to come as we get it.
